CCE Board Members

At the heart of Chartwell Country Estate & Conservancy is a dedicated group of residents who serve voluntarily on the CCE Board. These individuals give their time, energy, and expertise to help guide the estate, uphold our values, and ensure Chartwell remains a secure, beautiful, and well-managed place to live.
Our Board Members and Administrators represent the interests of the community and work closely with residents, service providers, and local authorities to maintain and enhance the unique lifestyle we enjoy here.
Each member brings their own skills and insights to the table—whether it’s in security, conservation, finance, communication, or community development. Together, they help make decisions that benefit us all.
We’re grateful for their service and commitment to making Chartwell a place we’re proud to call home.

Jo du Plessis

Joanna du Plessis (Chairperson)

I’m a nature-loving animal enthusiast who’s proudly called Chartwell home for over 11 years. I’m passionate about making our community a vibrant, welcoming place for everyone, and I’m honoured to serve on the Chartwell Country Estates Board to help bring that vision to life.

Warren Williams (Vice Chairperson)

My name is Warren Williams and I work in the property industry.

I have lived in Chartwell for 16 years and I have had various previous stints on the CCE board.

I would like to concentrate on improving infrastructure such as roads and gardens. One of my hobbies is walking and running through Chartwell and enjoying our countryside.

Thami Silwana

Thami Silwana (Treasurer)

My name is Thami, I was born in Soweto, and raised in the EC, moved to Chartwell in 2019 after settling back in SA, in search of what he calls ‘space’, which he’d been accustomed to in his childhood in the former Transkei. I am married to Kutlwano, and together we have 3 boys, Zwelamangwane, Zandemangwane and Zeakhemangwane.

I love traveling, having lived, worked and studied across a number of countries, spanning Africa, Europe and Asia. On a day to day basis, I am a General Manager within the Telecommunications industry, but consider myself a pretty decent handyperson who loves DIY activities.
I am a passionate generationalist, believing deeply in the principle of leaving the world better than we found it, and making a positive difference where I can.

Twenty-four years ago, I faced the choice of making our family home on Northcliff Ridge or here in Chartwell, surrounded by the tranquil agricultural green belt and the Klein Jukskei river. As an avid Whitewater Kayaker, trail runner, and CEO of ARMOUR.org.za advocating for water issues, Chartwell won my heart.

Since joining the community association in 2001/2, I’ve been part of various initiatives, from building the original gardens at Chartwell’s entrance to supporting social events and contributing to the Chartwell Conservancy. In 2023, I joined the working group and have been holding the portfolio of Environment and Beautification. Beyond ‘the green’ issues, I see the environment as a holistic ecosystem we’re all part of.
My commitment extends to protecting our river and fostering resident engagement in shaping Chartwell’s future. It’s a choice I’m happy with, and now, our children enjoy the unique rural residential lifestyle with a village feel.

Alfi von Merveldt

Alfi von Merveldt

I have been a resident in Chartwell since 1975, as a tenant and then as a homeowner from 1978. We arrived in South Africa from England in turbulent times (1974) and have experienced the various historical phases of highs and lows and the modern phase of an open society! In all this time, Chartwell has been our sanctuary and provided confidence for the future of this wonderful country. Our children grew up in Chartwell and remain in Gauteng, except for our son Nick who followed a career opportunity in Switzerland but yearns to return every year for holidays.

Chartwell has maintained its spacious rural character, but has the advantage of all the modern conveniences, such as shopping, schooling, entertainment, airport; all within a few minutes from our gate! This is worth preserving. BUT it needs us residents to support this lifestyle.

My wife Lulu and I have quietly supported the CCE, and the valuable off-shoots such as Conservancy, and Sweepstakes, which have all contributed to our community wellbeing, with private donations. So eventually I have decided to add some time-based payback to help as a board director.

I have 46 years of personal knowledge and as a ‘ma-plotter’ ways of getting things done, in the field of maintenance, security, and maintaining the ambience of a successful community. Fortunately, the current board is composed of similarly community spirited team of volunteer directors and co-opted project residents. Over the years previous boards have done sterling work such as getting a tar road, beautifying our access areas, lighting, fibre data line, enticing security companies to work with us, cameras etc and to fight our battles with the city to improve a deteriorating environmental and service situation.

I have also discovered that there is a large pool of skilled residents who can help us make Chartwell a great place to live in, and to raise happy secure families! These successes and maintaining of our profile, need resident commitment. Mainly money, but also resident inputs. So please, put your positive ideas forward and if possible time, and money donations to make it all a success! I urge all residents to help the new board with your support.

Alice Meiring

My name is Alice Meiring. I am originally from the Czech Republic. Over the past 15-20 years, I have travelled quite a bit and lived in the United States, Switzerland, Germany and Denmark until December 2018, when I arrived in South Africa. I have been married for a year.

I live in Centurion but spend most of my time around Midrand where I do many humanitarian activities in and with the community. I represent the Applied Scholastics International, a nonprofit educational organization which has recently purchased a property in Chartwell, known as the Zulu Nyala.

This non-profit organization is dedicated to the broad implementation of learning tools researched and developed by American author and educator L. Ron Hubbard. Applied Scholastics provides training and materials on a system of learning that has been tested and proven successful in all educational settings with students of all ages and cultures. It offers a Study Technology which when used, enables anyone to learn, understand and apply anything one studies.

When I first arrived in Chartwell to the AGM at the beginning of the year, I immediately felt comfortable with the people there, enjoyed the environment and the delicious food from Tracy. I saw the need to revitalize the community and bring its people together. I immediately joined the working group that was established and was later elected as one of the directors.

I am excited to be on the board and help with what is needed and to excite the community into action. As I am responsible for communication, please feel free to write to me about what is happening in your neighborhood, stories or anecdotes and I will be happy to post them for you.

Storm Davies

Storm Davies

My name is Storm Davies and I am self-employed. I do procurement, consolidation and logistics in the agricultural field. We have lived in Chartwell since 2019. Moving here gave me my best hobby, my garden. Chartwell also provides with a wonderful environment for my son and his chickens and dogs.
I am really looking forward to working alongside and learning the ins and outs of Chartwell and how I can be of benefit to the current community. Along with the Conservancy members, I look forward to focusing on the greenbelt that is Chartwell.

Daniel Magalefa

I’m a Media Designer who grew up in Chartwell, my family moved here late 1999, so I’ve been lucky enough to witness the development of Chartwell and the Fourways area as a whole

I’m very passionate about agriculture and preserving wildlife in the area

There’s no place like Chartwell, great community of kind like minded people.

Francoise Harrison

Francoise Harrison – Conservancy Chairperson

We bought our beautiful grassland property in Chartwell in 1982. It was the most wonderful place to raise a family and we have the most wonderful memories of living here close to Nature.

When the area was declared a Conservancy, I was very keen to be involved in helping to maintain the rural-residential environment of Chartwell and to work towards protecting indigenous wildlife and plant species in the area. Chartwell is a very special place, -one of the last greenbelt areas in the City. As residents of Chartwell, we are custodians of this beautiful space!

Jenni Brown

Jenni Brown

Hi. I’m Jenni Brown and I lived in Chartwell from August 1991 to February 2020 – just short of 30 years!  Chartwell is a beautiful place and we were lucky to have enjoyed so many years there and have the opportunity to bring up our 4 children in such a lovely open space.   I have been involved in the HOA since 1995 and although I have sadly left CCE, I am fortunate enough to still be involved in the CCE Association and remain part of the Chartwell family.

My late husband Viv and I got involved in the HOA as we felt it important work in the community and area that we lived in. I managed the accounts and administration for the Association, while Viv arranged many of the social gatherings such as the Fun Run and Christmas bakkie parade.

My work involves doing bookkeeping services for small businesses, so the work I do for the association fits right into my interest.  Other hobbies include sewing, gardening and of course special times with friends and family are the most important of all.

I’m super excited to be involved with the new committee – I think they have new energy and interest in Chartwell and I urge everyone to become involved in any way possible.
